Time-lapse technology and AI in IVF treatment

Crete Fertility Centre adopts the use of the Time-Lapse Incubator , enhancing further the quality of IVF treatment.

The Time-Lapse Incubator is an advanced solution specifically designed for in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures. It features six separate chambers, each dedicated to a single patient, with an integrated recording system that continuously monitors the development of embryos.

Key features:

  • Continuous recording: Takes photos every 5 minutes at up to 11 different focus levels, ensuring that culture conditions remain stable and unaffected.
  • Independent chambers: Each chamber operates independently, so that access to one does not affect the other embryos.
  • Automatic environmental control: Precisely manages temperature through dual heaters, regulates CO₂ and humidity levels, and has alarms and ensures a quick return to ideal conditions in approximately 3 minutes.

Time-Lapse Technology and Artificial Intelligence in IVF

The new incubators allow us to accurately monitor the morphological development of embryos in real time, recording each stage at the exact moment it occurs. With the help of specialized software, we can select the embryos with the greatest potential for embryo transfer or cryopreservation.

In addition, the couple has the ability to receive videos that capture the development of their embryos – from fertilization to the blastocyst stage.

Time-lapse technology offers a huge amount of data, which in combination with artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to allow us to predict with even greater accuracy which embryos have the highest chances of successful implantation and completion of pregnancy.

The Crete Fertility Centre uses an incubator with time-lapse technology (artificial intelligence) to monitor the development of embryos in real time.
In this way, we significantly increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

Trust innovation and science – together we bring life closer!

Benefits – why it stands out

  • Higher implantation and birth rates – increase in pregnancy up to +26% and birth up to +12% using time-lapse technology
  • Reduced embryo disturbance, as no opening of the chambers is required.
  • Accurate & objective assessment, rich data for embryologists and patients (e.g. development videos).
  • Increase in day five blastocysts by ~20%

The use of new incubators with time-lapse technology and artificial intelligence in IVF is associated with a significant improvement in implantation and birth rates, with an increase of up to 26% in successful pregnancies and up to 12% in deliveries.

Embryos remain in a stable environment without the need to open the chambers, thus reducing interventions and the stress they may cause.

Embryo evaluation is performed with greater accuracy and objectivity, as embryologists and parents are provided with rich data, such as videos with the entire development process.
We have the ability to collect information through videography and compare it with data from thousands of IVF cycles that have been performed — both in our own unit and in other renowned units internationally. By analyzing this data in real time, we can gain a comprehensive picture of each embryo’s progress and assess its prospects for successful implantation in the uterus.

In addition, there is an approximately 20% increase in the percentage of embryos reaching the blastocyst stage on the fifth day.

What does all this mean for you?

Choosing time-lapse technology in the IVF process offers you:

  1. Peace and reduced stress, since you can monitor the development of the embryos in real time, without interruptions.
  2. Greater accuracy in selecting the best embryos, supported by advanced software and artificial intelligence.
  3. Increased chances of success, thanks to a more stable and safe development environment.

Additionally, this technology adds one more innovation in the advantages of Crete Fertility Centre , increasing efficiency in IVF treatment.
